چکیده

19 scalp electrode (EEG) and 8 intra-cranial electrode (iEEG) are recorded simultaneously with a common reference. EEG data is subjected to independent component analysis (ICA) and localisation of components in grey matter is estimated by the sLORETA inverse solution. Correlation between the time series of two independent components and intra-cranial recordings is very high (computed over 23552 samples, max r = 0.8 and 0.67, respectively). One component is localized underneath the site of the implanted electrode. These findings were replicated using the second row of 8 iEEGs and an independent 19-electrode EEG recording, validating the source localisation provided by combining ICA and sLORETA. Utility of Independent Component Analysis for Interpretation of Intracranial EEG

Electrode arrays are sometimes implanted in the brains of patients with intractable epilepsy to better localize seizure foci before epilepsy surgery. Analysis of intracranial EEG (iEEG) recordings is typically performed in the electrode channel domain without explicit separation of the sources that generate the signals. However, intracranial EEG signals, like scalp EEG signals, could be linear ...

A Channel Rejection Method for Attenuating Motion-Related Artifacts in EEG Recordings during Walking

Recording scalp electroencephalography (EEG) during human motion can introduce motion artifacts. Repetitive head movements can generate artifact patterns across scalp EEG sensors. There are many methods for identifying and rejecting bad channels and independent components from EEG datasets, but there is a lack of methods dedicated to evaluate specific intra-channel amplitude patterns for identi...

Automatic and Direct Identification of Blink Components from Scalp EEG

Eye blink is an important and inevitable artifact during scalp electroencephalogram (EEG) recording. The main problem in EEG signal processing is how to identify eye blink components automatically with independent component analysis (ICA). Taking into account the fact that the eye blink as an external source has a higher sum of correlation with frontal EEG channels than all other sources due to...

Designing Patient-Specific Seizure Detectors From Multiple Frequency Bands of Intra-cranial EEG Using Support Vector Machines

Automatic seizure detection is becoming popular in modern epilepsy monitoring units since it assists diagnostic monitoring and reduces manual review of large volumes of EEG recordings. In this paper, we describe the application of machine learning algorithms for building patient-specific seizure detectors on multiple frequency bands of intra-cranial electroencephalogram (iEEG) recorded by a den...

Scalp and Intracranial EEG in Medically Intractable Extratemporal Epilepsy with Normal MRI

Purpose. To investigate EEG and SPECT in the surgical outcome of patients with normal MRI (nonlesional) and extratemporal lobe epilepsy. Methods. We retrospectively identified 41 consecutive patients with nonlesional extratemporal epilepsy who underwent epilepsy surgery between 1997 and 2007. The history, noninvasive diagnostic studies (scalp EEG, MRI, and SPECT) and intracranial EEG (iEEG) mon...
